Abstract:
The paper studies the problem of computing the distance between two points on the Earth globe surface. For this purpose the spherical coordinates are used, which represent also the geographical coordinates for this surface. The paper also shows the relationship between the spherical and cartesian coordinates. An algorithm is elaborated using vectors, which computes the distance between any two points on the surface of a sphere, therefore also on the surface of the Earth globe. A computer program is developed as well to help do all the necessary calculations.
