Abstract:
Sustainable livestock production is increasingly recognized as essential for ensuring food security, environmental protection, and rural livelihoods. In Moldova, the livestock sector faces significant challenges due to climate variability, limited forage resources, and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of sustainable livestock systems in Moldova, focusing on the management and optimization of the forage base. Current strategies for improving feed efficiency, integrating innovative forage crops, and adopting eco-friendly production practices are discussed. The review also highlights policy frameworks, research initiatives, and technological innovations supporting sustainable livestock development in the region. By synthesizing existing knowledge, this work aims to inform policymakers, researchers, and producers on best practices for enhancing productivity while maintaining environmental sustainability.
