Abstract:
The digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) represents a critical driver of economic resilience and competitiveness in emerging economies. However, limited financial capacity and lack of strategic expertise often hinder SMEs’ access to professional consulting services, slowing their digital adoption. This paper introduces the Moldova Affordable Consulting-Driven Digital Transformation Model (MACD-TM) – an innovative, contextual framework designed to make consulting-based digital transformation accessible, affordable, and sustainable for Moldovan SMEs. The research combines comparative analysis of international consulting practices with local empirical insights derived from Moldovan enterprises and support programs. Using a mixed-method approach grounded in ISO 20700 standards and change management frameworks, the study conceptualizes a scalable consulting model that integrates co-creation, performance measurement, and adaptive implementation. Results highlight the effectiveness of affordable consulting interventions in increasing digital maturity, process efficiency, and innovation capability among SMEs. The MACD-TM framework contributes theoretically by bridging global consulting principles with local economic realities and practically by offering a replicable model for other emerging economies. The paper concludes that consulting, when democratized through affordability and contextualization, can act as a strategic accelerator for digital transformation and sustainable entrepreneurship.
