Abstract:
This article examines the role of narrative design in video games, with a particular focus on Until Dawn as a case study. As an interactive horror title, Until Dawn employs a branching narrative structure where player choices directly influence the unfolding story and character fates. This paper explores how the game's narrative design techniques such as character development, dialogue choices, and multiple story outcomes enhance player immersion and emotional engagement. Additionally, it highlights how the game blends traditional storytelling with gameplay mechanics to create a dynamic, interactive experience. By analyzing Until Dawn’s narrative approach, the article demonstrates the growing importance of player agency in modern game design and its potential to elevate narrative-driven experiences within the gaming industry. Through this exploration, the paper argues that innovative narrative structures, as seen in Until Dawn, are crucial to the evolution of storytelling in games and their ability to shape player experiences.
