Abstract:
Purpose of the work: to determine the epidemiologic situation with respect to hemosporidiosis, to evaluate and assess some aspects of pathogenesis, prognosis and variations in some hematologic and biochemical parameters. Scientific research was carried out in the laboratory of UTM. The case study was performed on dogs, presented to different veterinary practices in Chisinau municipality. In this study a total of 11 dogs of different breeds, including maid dogs, were examined for the presence of the Babesia parasite in peripheral blood smears. Based on the present study, dogs with fever, lymphadenopathy, inappetence, pale mucous membranes associated with anemia and thrombocytopenia may be suspected for Babesia sp. infection. All suspect dogs in this study were diagnosed based solely on microscopic examination of stained peripheral blood smears. Microscopic examination may not detect low parasitemia; it remains the most rapid method of confirmation that was performed in the present study.
