dc.description.abstract The utilization of residues resulting from orchard pruning represents a promising solution for diversifying renewable energy sources and reducing dependence on fossil fuels in the Republic of Moldova. This study assesses the availability, quality, and sustainable energy potential of lignocellulosic biomass from seed and stone fruit species cultivated in different economic regions, based on samples collected from orchards larger than 10 ha. The analyses included biomass yield, moisture content, net calorific value, and ash content. Results indicate high sustainable energy potential values for peach (33.50 ± 6.54) GJ/ha, apple (29.67 ± 5.17) GJ/ha, and pear (29.45 ± 2.51) GJ/ha. The Northern region, dominated by apple orchards, accounts for the largest share of the national potential (467.73 – 665.13) TJ/yr, while the Central region stands out for plum and pear, and the Southern region for peach and apricot. Cherry residues show the lowest sustainable energy potential 17.61 GJ/ha and the highest predictive uncertainty Up = 8.99 GJ/ha. At the national level, the total sustainable energy potential is estimated between 806.50 and 1161.46 TJ/yr, and the use of this biomass could substitute significant amounts of coal, natural gas, and fuel oil, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and supporting the transition to a sustainable energy system. en_US
