Abstract

The investigation was conducted at the State Enterprise for Pig Rearing and Hybridization “Moldsuinhibrid" in 2012, using breeding boars of Landrace, Yorkshire and Pietrain breed, in order to assess the quality of the semen of boars of different breeds, and to find ways to increase their reproductive ability in the conditions of their rearing on pig farms. It was found out that the total number of spermatozoa in the ejaculate in the animals of Pietrain breed was higher in this time of the year in comparison with the boars of Landrace and Yorkshire breed. At the same time, the boars of Pietrain breed showed a better suitability of sperm by season in comparison with the boars of Yorkshire and Landrace breeds; during fall it was 83.03%.
