This paper analyzes the relationship between public expenditures and economic growth in the Republic of Moldova during the period 2016–2025. The study is based on the theoretical approaches of Wagner’s Law and the Keynesian hypothesis, highlighting the interaction between the expansion of the public sector and the dynamics of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The research examines the structure and evolution of public expenditures by functional classification, emphasizing the significant increase in allocations for education, economic services, and housing and communal services. At the same time, the paper analyzes the evolution of GDP and the statistical correlation between the two indicators. The results indicate a strong positive relationship between public spending and economic growth, although this correlation should be interpreted cautiously because both variables follow a common upward trend over time. The findings suggest that economic growth contributes to the expansion of public expenditures by increasing fiscal revenues and the financing capacity of the state. However, sustainable economic development does not automatically guarantee efficient use of public resources, which underlines the importance of prudent fiscal policies and balanced budgetary management.
