| dc.description.abstract | This paper considers the challenges in waste management system in modern period. Ukraine is facing an intensifying waste crisis due to military actions and their secondary effects on environment, population, economy, legislation, reforms ect. Solving the issue of waste is one of the most important challenges in the post-war period. The aim of the study is to describe the main challenges in municipal solid waste management system in Ukraine. One of them is waste from destruction, formed as a result of military actions on the territory of Ukraine. According to some estimates, the volumes of its generation are comparable to the annual production of municipal solid waste in Ukraine. The increasing volumes of waste generation and accumulation are a significant component of the escalating anthropogenic pressure that threatens the ecological security of the country's regions and the health of the population. The volume of industrial waste recovery does not exceed 30%. Only 9% of municipal solid waste is using as a secondary raw materials. As for waste from destruction, it only accumulates in large quantities. Thus, solving the issue of waste in Ukraine should be based on a comprehensive approach taking into account the specific development needs of each region. | en_US |
