Barriers and opportunities for sustainable economy development

Abstract

This publication analyzes the main obstacles and opportunities that influence the transition to a sustainable economy. Among the identified barriers, we can highlight insufficient awareness and education regarding the principles of the circular economy, insufficient infrastructure and financial difficulties for companies in adopting sustainable models, especially for developing countries, as well as a poorly developed legislative framework that does not contribute to the development of the circular economy. Opportunities, on the other hand, are determined by technological factor, which facilitate the development of eco-solutions and the efficient use of resources. Special attention was paid to the collaboration between the public and private sectors, as well as the involvement of communities in supporting various sustainable economy development projects. The need for an integrated approach is emphasized to overcome existing challenges and to capitalize on opportunities that can facilitate the transition from a linear to a circular economy.
