dc.description.abstract Echinococcosis caused by tapeworms of the genus Echinococcus, is an endemic cyclozoonosis with worldwide distribution. Of the major importance for Republic of Moldova is the domestic life cycle dog-sheep. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of cystic echinococcosis (CE) in cattle. Research was carried out during the years 2017 – 2018, in the central area of the Republic of Moldova, at the “Navelina” PCL slaughterhouse. During the study, 482 cattle were examined by detailed post-mortem inspection for the presence of hydatid cysts. The prevalence of CE in cattle was 53,9%, the infection rate increases when the age of cattle advances. The most common localization was both in liver and lungs (56,1%). In cattle kept in conventional barns, EC was identified less frequently (26,2%) compared to free ranged cattle (67,0%). In conclusion, it is necessary to continue the study on the epidemiology of E. granulosus in order to monitor the evolution and dynamics of the disease, and to integrate the acquired knowledge into effective measures for the prevention and control of echinococcosis. en_US
