Abstract:
Parasitological research was conducted on 759 chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus) from private farms in the Republic of Moldova during the years 2020-2024. Ectoparasites were collected from live birds using a new procedure, which is more informative (Luncașu M., Zamornea M. 2007), as well as classical methods according to Dubinina M., 1955. The collected material was subsequently examined using a MБC-9 magnifier (ob.14x2) and a Novex Holland B microscope (ob. 20-40 WF 10x Din/20mm) in the Parasitology and Helminthology Laboratory at the Zoology Institute of USM. It was determined that, in chickens (Gallus gallus domesticus), 9 species of lice parasitize (Eomenacanthus stramineus, Cuclotogaster heterographus, Goniocotes gallinae, Goniocotes maculatus, Goniodes dissimilis, Menopon gallinae, Menacanthus pallidulus, Menacanthus cornutus, Lipeurus caponis), 2 species of fleas (Cheratophylus gallinae, Cheratophylus hirundinis), and 2 species of gamasid mites (Dermanyssus gallinae, Dermanyssus hirundinis). It was assessed that, in private households, the infestation of chickens with lice was up to 100% of cases, with fleas at 39.0%, and gamasid mites at 72.0% of cases.
