dc.description.abstract | Gavril Trotusan, one of the greatest boyars of Moldavia, from the first half of the 16th century, held high dignities during the reign of several waiwodes. In 1500, Stefan the Great and the Holy appoints him sword bearer, during the reign of Bogdan 3rd (1504 - 1517) he fulfills the position of treasurer as of 1506 and then that of great treasurer. The same ruler awards him the dignity of great bailiff in 1515, being one of the few literate boyars. In 1523 Stefanita Voda (1517 - 1527) removes him from the Ruling Council after the rebellion of the boyars from the same year. During the first reign of Petru Rares he is again appointed in the Ruling Council, being the second councilor. Stefan Lacusta awards him the position of great bailiff. He had control over several villages near Suceava, the capital of Moldavia, having his manor house in Parhauti, Suceava County, today. He was a good and faithful Christian, a proof being the fact that he built in Parhauti the stone church with the name of ,,Sunday of all Saints”, he made several donations to the churches and the monasteries, he repaired the defense walls and the monastery cells from Pantocrator Monastery on Mount Athos, where he built a well too. He was part of the political events of that time, getting a vast experience after 40 years of high dignities , during which the rulers he served called him in most of the documents: ,,our most honest and faithful boyar”, ,,our most faithful Trotusan bailiff ” etc. It is supposed that trough the family of his infant child he was related to Stephen the Great and Holy’s mother. He grew distant from Petru Rares, who during his second reign, punished Gavril Trotusan and other high boyars by beheading them in the city of Roman on the 11th of March 1541.The whereabouts of his tomb are not known. | en_US |
